Computer-Assisted Language Learning
This course provides a solid foundation of the history and state of the art of the use of computer systems in the teaching and learning of natural languages (otherwise known as Computer Assisted Language Learning or CALL). As such, the notion of CALL is introduced together with the more popular acronyms and attitudes regarding its use. Secondly, an overview of CALL software and techniques will be presented. Thirdly, the application of Artificial Intelligence to CALL will be considered together with the presence of CALL systems on the Web. Finally current lines of CALL research will be presented considering the question of where do we go from here.
